Halo Infinite Developers Discuss The Impact Of The Year-Long Delay

Halo Infinite was originally supposed to release in 2020, but Microsoft delayed the game an entire year due in part to the impact of the pandemic and working from home. A series of developers have now shared their thoughts on the additional development time and how Halo Infinite benefitted. Come from Sports betting site VPbet

Associate creative director Paul Crocker told VGC that the additional year of development gave the team the time to play through the game completely multiple times and have a good think about where the game stood and how it could make it even better. In terms of specifics, Crocker said the team spent the additional time making sure the Grappleshot was “as fun as it possible can be,” while the t…

Elden Ring’s new Shadow of the Erdtree expansion requires fast reflexes, a well-equipped character, and plenty of patience if you’re looking to conquer it. Or if you want to show off, you could find a novel way to play it, just like Twitch streamer Perrikaryal has done by using the power of her mind to make progress. Come from Sports betting site VPbet

Working her way through the Elden Ring DLC–which is quickly earning a reputation for being incredibly challenging–Perrikaryal has already managed to beat several of the early bosses with pure brain power, like those two guys in a Chinese dragon costume. How does the hands-free setup work? According to Kotaku, Perrikaryal’s rig uses motion sensors to track her head and eye …

Betting and Gaming Council advising against strict affordability checks

In the United Kingdom and the influential Betting and Gaming Council lobby group has released the results of a survey showing that only about 16% of those who regularly enjoy sportsbetting would be willing to submit to strict affordability checks.

The London-headquartered organization used an official Thursday press release to detail that the figure comes from an investigation carried out by YouGov as the nation’s Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) is continuing to consider whether such assessments should be implemented as part of an effort to make wagering safer and help fight the alleged growing pervasiveness of problem gambling.

Capricious concerns:

The Betting and Gaming Council represents approximately 90% of British gami…

So, About that Emily in Paris Twist

Warning: This post contains spoilers for Season 4 Part 1 of Emily in Paris.

For the better part of its previous seasons, Emily in Paris has centered on the messy love triangle between Emily (Lily Collins) and her friends, achingly cool French couple Gabriel (Lucas Bravo) and Camille (Camille Razat). Though Emily and Gabriel confessed their desire to be with one another in the cliffhanger finale of Season 3, the reveal that Camille was pregnant with Gabriel’s baby and that she was secretly in love with artist Sofia (Melia Kreiling) seemed to put Gabriel and Emily’s feelings for each other on pause.

In Season 4, however, it seems like each of these friends may finally be getting what their hearts desire—even t…

Aggressive Nintendo copyright strikes on YouTube push Breath of the Wild multiplayer modders into taking down mod-

Last week was a thrilling one for the Zelda: Breath of the Wild mod scene: a year and a half after proposing the idea of a multiplayer mod (and with a $10,000 bounty to sweeten the pot), YouTuber PointCrow released the first public version of the mod. Shortly after, Nintendo filed YouTube copyright claims against several of PointCrow’s videos. This Tuesday, he announced on Discord that he was removing the mod’s download links while “in talks with Nintendo.”

“I have taken down the mods in this Discord as I am currently in talks with Nintendo. All I can share right now, please no speculation and understand that I will update you all as much as I can. [Thank you so much],” reads PointCrow’s full statement.

The celebrated launch and subsequent removal of the mod have given the Z…

As if it didn’t dominate the AI market already, Nvidia is gearing up to go after the custom AI chip market-

Just in case you weren’t already aware, AI is big business. Nvidia dominates the red hot AI market, with the company now valued at over 1.7 trillion dollars, making it the world’s 6th largest company by market cap, and it’s on track to overtake Amazon and Alphabet (Google) sooner rather than later. It’s mostly achieved this on the back of soaring demand for its AI processors.

But while its H100 and A100 families of mega processors generate the big bucks, there’s an emerging demand for custom AI processing. According to a report from Reuters, Nvidia is putting together a new business unit focused on custom solutions, allowing customers access to its growing portfolio of intellectual property.

Reuters estimates Nvidia controls about 80% of the AI market, but its chips are very…

Cult of the Lamb developer would ‘love to’ add multiplayer, so it ‘isn’t off the table’-

Cult of the Lamb developer Massive Monster has been pretty busy lately. Last month, it launched a chunky free update in the form of Sins of the Flesh, allowing cult leaders to lead their followers into depravity, something its unexpectedly thirsty community was more than happy to do. Now it’s planning “more content” and “more DLCs”, which might also take it in an unusual direction.

In an ongoing Reddit AMA, the topic of multiplayer has come up a lot. Players have been requesting this for a long time, which strikes me as a little strange for a game where you play an autocratic cult leader. I guess there’s potential in a more competitive streak, where cult leaders compete with each other? Either way, Massive Monster has been surprisingly receptive to the request.

Devolver announces Forestrike, a kung fu roguelike where you can plan your moves in advance

A lot of action games promise the thrill of a choreographed martial arts movie, but when I play them the fights tend to look more like a panicked scramble than a martial arts masterpiece. If my execution’s ever artful, it’s during a repeat playthrough when I’m not learning on the fly.

Forestrike, an upcoming action roguelike revealed by Devolver earlier today at Japanese indie game festival BitSummit, hopes to provide a solution for the problem of delivering elegant action: It lets you see the future before you have to punch it.

In Forestrike, you play as a novice martial artist, seeking to liberate your country from the clutches of an evil admiral by conquering a series of kung fu encounters—as all the coolest revolutionaries do. You’re outnumbered in every brawl, b…

Enter an abandoned amusement park to solve a horror mystery in this upcoming bit of indie psychological horror-

Players that devour games like Resident Evil and Control alike, not to mention the just-released Alan Wake 2, should keep their eyes on an indie that popped up on Steam recently: Crow Country. It’s an indie horror game with that vague aesthetic of the PSX era that channels the likes of not just the early survival horror like Resident Evil, but the more esoterically strange and scientific scares of games like Parasite Eve.

Thus, the game description: “The year is 1990. Edward Crow has disappeared. The owner of ‘Crow Country’, he has not been seen since he unexpectedly shut down his park two years ago. The silence is broken when a mysterious young woman named Mara Forest ventures into the heart of the abandoned theme park in order to find him.”

OpenAI’s CEO vision of humanity’s AI-powered glorious future- ‘Fixing the climate, establishing a space colony, and the discovery of all of physics’

There’s nothing innately newsworthy about a technology boss promoting the benefits of their products but when the CEO of the company behind ChatGPT reckons that deep learning will lead humanity into a new Age, solve climate change, and discover all of physics then it’s certainly worth raising an eyebrow, at least.

I am, of course, talking about Sam Altman of OpenAI, who is perhaps the most vocal proponent of artificial intelligence at the moment. His latest musings (via The Verge), though, do read more like a piece of science fiction than a detailed breakdown of what the future holds for deep learning.

One expects a CEO to be ebullient about their product and make lofty but ambiguous claims, but Altman is taking things another step beyond all of that. “I believe the future…

Morrowind’s most impossibly ambitious mod just added a whole new region for its 7th expansion in 22 years-

One of the most ambitious mods in history got even bigger today with the release of Tamriel Rebuilt’s Andaram expansion, the seventh major add-on for the 22-year-old Morrowind mod project that is, somehow, older than Morrowind itself.

Tamriel Rebuilt’s aim is to construct the entire mainland of Morrowind, the dark elf province of Tamriel on which The Elder Scrolls 3 takes place. Although Skyrim contains all of Skyrim and Oblivion contains all of Cyrodiil, Morrowind restricted players to the isle of Vvardenfell for its duration, leaving a big blank space for Tamriel Rebuilt’s modders to fill. Andaram is the latest chunk, focusing on “the middle Thirr River, and the dark secrets which lie under its waters.”

At this point, I’m beginning to wonder if it’s…

New Marvel TV show has AI-generated opening credits, and they’re somehow even worse than you’d expect-

Marvel’s oozed-up AI credits sequence for Secret Invasion came out as horrid as you’d expect. Originally a comic storyline centred around the Skrulls—sinister alien shapeshifters—and their infiltration of the superhero community, a Marvel Cinematic Universe retelling could’ve been interesting. Unfortunately, the studio’s decision to work with an “AI Vendor” has left many fans furious.

“Imagine developing an entire show that is LITERALLY about displacing people and mimicking/imitating them with the goal of ultimately disempowering and replacing them, and then doing this,” dekubrush—a senior character artist at Blizzard—wrote on Twitter, going on to call it an “utter embarrassment” and an “absolute failure of the highest magnitude.”

Our number one pick for best gaming CPU has a Black Friday discount right now, and its a scorcher of a chip-

The Intel Core i5 13600K is our current top pick for best gaming CPU, and it’s on Black Friday discount at Amazon right now for $270. That’s a super quick chip at a significantly cheaper price, and it’s worth reminding ourselves why it’s such a good shout for a top-end gaming PC.

The Core i5 13600K might technically be a mid-range chip, but its performance is absolutely mighty. In our Core i5 13600K review back in October of last year we found it matched the pace and even at some points out-performed the Core i9 12900K in gaming benchmarks, and even gets within a few frames of its successor, the 14600K.

That’s margin of error stuff, and for my money it’s definitely worth getting this chip at a discount over its refreshed model. Both CPUs use the Raptor Lake architectur…

Microsoft president clarifies EU cloud agreement, popular games will be ‘automatically’ licensed to competitors and ‘this will apply globally’-

We’re reaching the business end of Microsoft’s huge heave to get its proposed $68.7 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard approved, and earlier this week it took a big step forward when the EU Commission approved the deal. The EU regulator noted many of the same concerns about the nascent cloud gaming market as the UK’s Competition and Markets Authority (CMA), which has said it will block the deal, but was ultimately persuaded by the remedies Microsoft proposed.

Microsoft offered the following commitments, all with a 10-year duration:

  • A free license to consumers in the EEA that would allow them to stream, via any cloud game streaming services of their choice, all current and future Activision Blizzard PC and console games for which they have a license…

Starfield ship bug launches player into space without most of their ship-

A recently discovered Starfield bug makes the argument that a spaceship can be anything, even a cockpit with nothing else attached to it.

When Reddit user Denubtheredditor flipped the switch to launch their ship into space, Starfield decided to tweak a few things before liftoff. The ship’s UI confirms that all systems are ready to go and the engines burn bright, but most of Denubtheredditor’s ship stays behind as the cockpit lifts up into the air and floats toward space. It’s as if they smashed the eject button by accident.

The short clip ends before the loading screen that sends you to space, so it’s unclear what happens to Denubtheredditor once they break through the planet’s atmosphere. In the comments, Dieser paints a picture of their experience: “I naturally couldn’t mo…

Taiwanese chipmaking bounces back after last week’s 7.4 magnitude earthquake-

On Wednesday, the 3rd of April, a 7.4 magnitude earthquake struck Taiwan. It was followed by a series of aftershocks and there were fears that many of the Taiwanese based chip makers and manufacturers would see production disruptions as a result. In the week or so since, those fears look mostly unfounded.

Thankfully, most of Taiwan’s population centers and semiconductor manufacturing facilities are not located in the mountainous eastern regions of Taiwan, where the earthquake’s epicenter was located. TSMC was quick to resume operations following an assessment of its critical tools. As much as 80% of its production capacity was back online within just 10 hours of the quake.

TSMC isn’t the only chip maker with Taiwan-based facilities. According to Trendforce, DRAM manufactures…

Vice-presidential candidate Tim Walz once endorsed a high school Valorant team-

When US presidential candidate Kamala Harris announced Minnesota governor Tim Walz as her running mate, it meant something different to the varsity Valorant esports team from Apple Valley High School in Minnesota. It meant they’d now been endorsed by the man who might soon become the vice president of the USA.

“Congratulations on an undefeated season and winning the Minnesota Varsity League State Championship in Valorant!” Walz wrote in a letter shared on the Apple Valley High School Esports Twitter account in 2022. The idea of a state governor knowing what Valorant is, even if just for the time it takes to sign a letter passing across his desk on a Tuesday morning, seems wild to think about, but welcome to the 2020s I guess.

Walz went on to applaud the “mental fortitude and…

These Diablo 4 players are working together to find the game’s secret cow level, which officially does not exist-

There are few videogame legends more famous or enduring that than of the Diablo cow level. There actually isn’t a cow level in Diablo (1997), but rumors of one were so persistent and pervasive that Blizzard included one in Diablo 2, and later brought cow-themed levels to Diablo 3 and even World of Warcraft. There’s even an entire Wikipedia entry dedicated specifically to the cow level, including a section on its “impact and legacy.”

In light of that, at least some fans were no doubt surprised and disappointed when Diablo general manager Rod Fergusson said that there’s no cow level in Diablo 4. “We’ve been really focused on trying to keep it as grounded as possible,” Fergusson said in a May interview with Kinda Funny. “And because of that, there’s no secret level in Diablo 4 that p…

Warhammer 40,000- Darktide’s latest update adds new weapons and a mission to reactivate an icy AdMech foundry-

We’ll Miss You- Pioneering instant messaging program ICQ is finally shutting down after nearly 30 years-

There was a time when ICQ—that’s “I Seek You”—was as ubiquitous as mIRC and a good FTP program. But after nearly three decades of operation (much of it, I’m sorry to say, in obscurity), the end has finally come: A message posted on the ICQ website (via PCMag) says the software will stop operating on June 26.

Why use fans when you can cool your CPU with 8 lbs of copper–

When it comes to PC gaming one of the biggest trials is keeping things cool. You can have all the power in the world packed into your case, but it’s for naught without cooling. More power often means more heat thanks to that big jerk physics, and plenty of builds bottleneck due to temps, rather than capabilities. This is why we see overclockers do wild things like douse their CPUs in liquid nitrogen or use about 8 lbs (nearly 4 kgs) of solid copper.

Copper is an amazingly conductive material, great for cooling, but it’s also hideously expensive. This is why I was in no way prepared to see a honking tower of solid copper sitting casually on top of one enthusiast’s CPU. The awe-inspiring, yet wallet-crushing image was posted to Reddit by That Desktop User and was also shared by Fanl…
